Printing with Nylon

To celebrate the arrival of our new X3D Nylon filament, we’ve created a How To article!

Nylon is a stronger, durable and more versatile alternative 3D printing material to your regular PLA and ABS. It is low friction coefficient with the strength of injection molded parts. Flexible when thin and with the ability to bond incredibly well, Nylon is great to print functional parts with (such as hinges or gears.)

Nylon needs an all-metal hot end in order to print at temperatures above 240 C. A heated bed is also recommended as nylon has a tendency to warp like ABS.

As nylon absorbs water from the air you must make sure that it is dry before you print. Dry nylon prints smoothly with a glossy finish. When water absorbed nylon is printed, the water in the filament causes air bubbles during printing that prevents good layer adhesion, weakens the part and ruins the surface finish.

Recommended print settings:

| Extrusion Temperature | 240-260 C |
| Print Bed Temperature | 70 - 80 C |
| Speed | 30-60 mm/s |

| Layer Height | 0.2mm - 0.4mm |
